Mental Health/Counseling
Homeboy offers the services of
Mental Health counselors on site. We have dedicated substance
abuse and domestic violence counselors as well as a psychiatrist.
In addition to on site Mental Health
Counselors, we have added dedicated substance and domestic
violence abuse counselors, group therapy, and a psychiatrist
for clients in need of more serious help. By providing these
services in the safe and supportive environment of Homeboy,
we are reducing the stigma often attached to mental health
support in this community while also making the services
more accessible. Through a partnership with the Department
of Mental Health and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department,
several of our young men and women have been trained as
peer-to-peer counselors. They meet regularly with the incarcerated
prior to release, encouraging them to make a change in their
lives, informing them of the services offered at Homeboy,
and striving to establish a support network so that upon
release, these young men and women stand the best chance
of success.
