Employment Services

Jobs are the key to change. Our Employment Counselors search out available jobs and work one-on-one with clients to develop resumes, hone interview and personal presentation skills, and find good employment matches.

Our Employment Counselors, also known as Job Developers, work with local employers, searching out available jobs, and talking with employers about the unique challenges and rewards of hiring our clients. Additionally, they work one-on-one with clients developing resumes, honing interview skills, and finding good employment matches.

Adult Job Seekers (over 18 years old)

Assisting at-risk, disadvantaged, and formerly gang-involved clients to find employment is one of the services provided by Homeboy Industries. We employ four full-time Job Developers to assist in job placement. Because many of our clients are not obvious choices for employers, these Job Developers go out into the community and foster relationships with local businesses, searching out employers who would be willing to work with parolees or former gang members, and taking the time to overcome possible fears and reservations. Additionally, our Job Developers work with clients to create a successful resume, maintain a database of job openings and client qualifications and skills, so as to best match clients with jobs as they become available.

In collaboration with the Cathedral of Los Angeles, we offer a special program for young people called Work is Noble (WIN).

Through a collaboration and support of the Cathedral of Los Angeles, we offer a special program for young people, called Work is Noble (WIN). In this program, young people are assigned to work in a local business in an area in which they have expressed interest. This has proven to be highly successful arrangement, as the young men and women are given the opportunity to work in a field that interests them while developing concrete skills that will help them continue in the field, while the businesses are able to have another employee at no extra cost. This program not only teaches the young men and women that there are constructive alternatives to life on the streets, but also gives them real work experience, preferably in a company that then may hire them after the program. Further, by placing young people in a work environment, they are surrounded by adults who are living examples of a commitment to earning an honest day’s wage, and who can serve as mentors.

Employers

Our goal remains to find permanent, meaningful employment for our clients. While many of our clients need job training before they are ready to be placed out, many others come to us with concrete skills and are ready to work. Additionally, once clients have completed training, they are strong candidates for many positions.

For more information about employing our clients, please contact Ramon Flores with our Employment Services at (323)526-1254 ext. 332 or email: ramonf@homeboy-industries.org
